Brunnhoelzl On Track to Success In Mods Once Again
There is no questioning the fact that George Brunnhoelzl III has a bunch of talent, but talent alone cannot make you a superstar in racing. Equipment, personnel, chemistry and the almighty dollar certainly have their say in proving whether you will be successful. This year Brunnhoelzl has built a new car he thinks will help propel him to the top of the NASCAR Southern Whelen Modified Tour charts and he took a giant leap toward achieving that goal at the season opening race, a 150-lap event Saturday night at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina.
Brunnhoelzl qualified second in time trials, but picked starting spot eight during the NASCAR redraw. After settling in the top-five in the early stages of the race, his engine began to sputter.
“The motor was missing so rather than taking a chance of blowing it up, I decided to pull it in,” said the third generation racer. “After evaluating what went wrong, we realized we lost the alternator belt and there was essentially no voltage going to the engine. It was a shame, but we know we have a good car and we care ready to go this week.”
This week brings race number two on the NASCAR Southern Whelen Modified Tour at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC.
