George Brunnhoelzl, III Makes Up Lap for Seventh-Place Finish
Southern Points Leader Takes Second in South Rundown
It’s only a matter of time now before we can officially call George Brunnhoelzl, III the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Champion. This is, of course, partially thanks to his seventh-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in the Made in America 200 on Sunday. Brunnhoelzl actually was second in the South results, which helped him pad his lead on Andy Seuss in the race for the championship.
“We’re just about winning races right now,” said Brunnhoelzl. “We came out of here in one piece so we are thankful for that. We were hanging on there during the early part of the race. The driver made mistake and stalled it on pit road and we lost a lap pushing the car out of the pits. The guys did a great job on the pit stop and a great job pushing me down pit road.”
Brunnhoelzl made up the lap and worked his may back into the top 10. After the race he praised his power plant for their success at Martinsville and elsewhere in the south in 2009.
“I have to thank Performance Technology they build us one heck of a motor. That always makes it a lot easier. Fiberwap and Oval Speed Unlimited have been a big help for us this year as well. I am glad we got out of here in one piece.”
Brunnhoelzl will be back in action on Friday, October 2nd at Ace Speedway (NC) for the next to the last event on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. He could potentially wrap up the title with a solid finish.
