George Brunnhoelzl, III Makes Notable Run to Sixth at North South Shootout
Wrecks and Flat Tires Can’t Slow Southern Champion at Concord

The North South Shootout at Concord Speedway (NC) was a chance for 2009 NASCAR Whelen South Modified Tour Champion George Brunnhoelzl, III to flex his muscles and prove to the Northern boys that he’s one of the best Modified drivers in the county.  Although he didn’t win, the performance that led to a sixth-place finish was enough to show how good Brunnhoelzl and his team have been all season.
“We had a real fast car,” said Brunnhoelzl.  “All the guys worked hard and did great job to get the car ready to race.  There were a lot of wrecks early on and we got caught up in one of them, but once again the guys came through and got the car back together and we came all the back and finished sixth.”

It wasn’t as easy as that, Brunnhoelzl spent many laps on pit road and came from 22nd on the track to second in the first long green flag of the night.  The caution on lap 70 sent him to pit road for tires, however on the restart the right front started to go down which sent Brunnhoelzl to the pits during the next yellow flag period.

“Once we got the new tire on the car everything was fine, added Brunnhoelzl.  “We were strong, but we just ran out of laps.  I love this race track, we run well every time we come here, we just can’t get the results to show for it.”
Brunnhoelzl’s 2009 season is complete and he looks forward the NASCAR Touring Series Banquet on November 14th where he will receive his 2009 honor as the NASCAR Whelen South Modified Tour Champion.
