Bad Brakes Lead to Bad Breaks For Brunnhoelzl in Showdown
NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Champion Finishes 39th at Irwindale

Before he became the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion, George Brunnhoelzl, III was also an accomplished stock car driver - having run successfully in the USAR Pro Cup ranks.  As one of the perks of being a NASCAR champion, Brunnhoelzl was invited to the 2010 version of the NASCAR All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California - where he was looking forwarded to showing his stuff in a fendered racecar again.

Unfortunately, Brunnhoelzl suffered some bad breaks in the race when the brakes failed on his Whelen-sponsored Chevrolet.  This left Brunnhoelzl with a finish of 39th in the prestigious event.

“It's just a shame to drop out that early,” said Brunnhoelzl.  “We just overheated the brakes early and couldn't come back from it.  I was pumping them up down the straightaways, but lost them going into turn one there.  It just went straight to the floor.  So it's a real shame but I've got to thank all of the guys from Marsh Racing for giving me this opportunity, Fiberwrap, Mr. Bill Higby and Oval Speed Unlimited.  Without them, I wouldn't be here.”

Brunnhoelzl will now return his focus to Modifieds and will run the full NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season for the #46 Berkley Auto Racing team.
