George Brunnhoelzl III Grabs Top 15 After Early Problems
Focus Turns to Preparation for the Ice Breaker at Thompson.

The last few weeks have been rough ones for 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Champion George Brunnhoelzl III.   After smashing his car up at an open competition race held at Orange County Speedway (NC) a few weeks ago, Brunnhoelzl came to South Boston Speedway (VA) for the NASCAR WSMT race and was looking to turn things around with a good finish.  But, a stack-up in the opening laps left him playing catch up all day.  Brunnhoelzl would end up finishing 15th - one lap off the pace.
“The car wasn’t perfect, but we tore it up on lap three with that mess down in turn one,” said Brunnhoelzl.   “We tried to come back after that and I didn’t have any good tires to put on so we put on old ones.  The tie rod was bent and the spindle is bent.  So it kind of killed us for the day.”

The yellow and blue number 28 will likely sit at the shop for a few weeks as Brunnhoelzl will head north to race for Berkley Auto Racing in the first race of his 2010 “Northern” NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule.   To start off his 2010 season at the Icebreaker is really something special for Brunnhoelzl.

“We are really excited about next week,” said Brunnhoelzl with a smile. “This is going to be my first trip to the Icebreaker and we just want to have good showing. I can remember watching Dad run there for years and now I get my chance.  We wish we could have come out of here [South Boston] on a high note.”

The Icebreaker will be Brunnhoelzl’s next race on Sunday, April 11th at the famed Thompson International Speedway (CT).
