George Brunnhoelzl Keeps Plugging Away With Another Podium at The Stadium
Points Leader Post Sixth-Straight Top-Five Finish This Season

George Brunnhoelzl III has been lights out in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified competition in 2011.  After five races he held the points lead with two wins and five top-five finishes.  So when he sat on the pole on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium (NC), it was nothing new for the Modified world.  GB3 dominated the early part of the Strutmasters.com 199 before getting moved out of the lead and eventually finishing third.
"This year has been great," said Brunnhoelzl.  "We got the car working really good.  I don't think there was any question that we were the fastest car here tonight.  We just were not in the right position long enough."

Brunnhoelzl led the first 86 laps before LW Miller gave him a hard shot going into turn three which cost Brunnhoelzl the race.  He would slip back through the field, but would rebound to post yet another podium finish.  Brunnholzl was second at Bowman Gray in 2009 when he won the NASCAR Southern Modified title.

"It's tough," admitted a heated Brunnhoelzl after the race.  "We had the fastest car and sat on the pole.  We had a really good race car. Some people will say it's just Bowman Gray.  Others will say it's certain people, but no matter what you do if you get hit going into the corner you're going to chase it up the track or spin out and you lose the spot.  It's one of those deals.  You shouldn't have to race like that, but some people do.   It's Bowman Gray."

On Wednesday, August 24th GB3 will head to the high banks of Bristol where he looks to improve on his fourth-place run from 2009 in the Northern and Southern Modified Tour combination race.  That year he also got credit for winning the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour portion of the race as the highest finishing WSMT driver.
