GBIII Brings Home Solid Second-Place Finish at Caraway
Runner-Up Finish to Teammate Helps Brunnhoelzl Extend NWSMT Point Lead to 125
The second-place finish that George Brunnhoelzl III posted to teammate Andy Seuss on Friday night at Caraway Speedway was just what he needed to stay on top of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour standings. Not to mention the great morale boost it brought to his team.
“This is great,” said Brunnhoelzl. “Hats off to Ideal Racing, the Harvey’s and Riggs Racing. I mean it’s great, one – two is always good and we had a really good car tonight. The guys worked hard even despite some engine problems that we had. We developed a miss about halfway through, but I still really think we had a good car and we’ve definitely got something to build on.”
After being caught up in an accident and finishing 29th at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier in the week Brunnhoelzl was looking forward to a chance to rebound at Caraway.
"It always affects your confidence,” explained Brunnhoelzl. “You know, the way you’re thinking going into a race when you didn’t do well the race before. Then we had a qualifying effort that we really weren’t happy with so that kind of knocked it back but we knew we had a good racecar and it showed it tonight.”
In a few short weeks Brunnhoelzl and his team will head to Thompson International Speedway and he is ready to put his prior experiences at the Connecticut track to use against most of his competition who have yet to see the historic track.
“I ran there twice last year,” said Brunnhoelzl. “So it should hopefully give me a little bit of an edge on some of these guys. Besides Andy [Seuss, teammate], I think there are only three or four of us that have ever run Thompson so it should be pretty good.”
Before he heads north to Thompson, Brunnhoelzl must first take on Langley Speedway (VA) on Saturday, September 3rd with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
